The Caged Beast

This is a video that I helped put together for a guy on my floor. He made it for a psychology class that he is currently in. If you have ever taken psychology, you should immediately understand what the video is referring to. If you don't know much about psychology, it is still hilarious to watch! The guy's name is Mark and he is literally the funniest guy I have ever met! Enjoy, The Caged Beast...

D.L. Moody and Charles Spurgeon

D.L. Moody had long admired Charles Spurgeon’s sermons, and when Moody traveled to London, he went to meet the famous preacher. He was met at the door by Spurgeon himself, smoking a cigar. Moody was shocked. “How can you, a man of God, smoke that cigar?” Spurgeon was not offended, but he replied, “The same way that you, a man of God, can be that fat.”

Tiger Attack!

I don't know if this guy survived, but if he did, I'll bet he has nightmares...

P.S. - Matt G. commented that maybe the reason the video ends so abruptly is because the guy filming didn't see the other tiger...

Scientology Orientation Video

Check out this Scientology orientation video that all potential "converts" see at one of the Scientology "churches." With the massive amounts of money that they rake in, you'd think that could come up with something that looked less like full blown propoganda and more like a real documentary.

I especially like the beginning where you see the astroids plummiting towards the earth. My guess is that the astroids are the ones that hit the earth about 75 million years ago (the Xenu Incident), implanting Thetans on our lonely rock, thus leading to the human race (or something like that...).

I actually would love to go through an "auditing" session; it'd be fun to learn about my past lives as an alien. Who knows - if I'm lucky I may find out that I was "deceived into a love affair with a robot decked out as a beautiful red-haired ," or maybe that I was run over by steam roller driven by a Martian bishop. If I'm really lucky (one can only hope!), I might find that I had been transformed into an intergalactic walrus who died when I fell out of a flying saucer! Wow! My current life is boring compared to my past ones!

You can read more about the Xenu Incident here. It's almost as good as Star Wars!

Calvinism: An Infection

Check out this disturbing clip from the Reverand Jerry Falwell's church, where Ergun Caner (right) rants against the "infection" of Calvinism. He seems to think that "infected" people (aka Calvinists) have no reason to share the Gospel. He says we aren't willing to "preach, and teach, and reach" the unsaved. But not Mr. Caner - he will be "standing on top of [his] hands" when he stands before God's throne.

Well that's a bunch of crap.

It actually gets quite hillarious towards the end, especially when Mr. Falwell contradicts himself in his own prayer.

JC is in the house (John Calvin that is...).

What's in a Name?

Apparently a lot, according to Nate over at nateNotes.

The title of the article is The Death of "Fundamentalism". (How could he give a post that title?!) Check it out and I'm sure any reasonable person will find themselves nodding in agreement in no time.

Personally, I favor the label of

The Calvinist Heresy

Head over to nateNotes and check out his take on Calvinist Propoganda. Its an inside look at how Arminians are battling the Great Heresy against free will.

After you are done there, check out this other site where one of those heretics gives his reasons for being a Calvinist...pathetic. Reason number 10 is by far the worst of them all.

Caution!

Oh, I really do want to write a real post, but alas I cannot. Those Prof's...they know how to get you down. So once again, I had to resort to posting a rather frivolous and pointless picture (it is funny though!).

Oh wait! I can say one meaningful thing! Check out Abort73.com (it is the banner ad right above the actual blog section of the page. It says "Abort73.com" on it...go figure.). I just got a newsletter from them today and was really impressed by it. Just check out their site and you will see what I mean. When you are there, be sure to look at the section that deals with Scripture - it's pretty good.

Ok, for those of you who don't have any clue as to what a "banner ad" is, I will provide you with this link (Abort73.com) to help you to find your way the site. I'm all about convenience.

Abomination!!

What is happening?! It is like the world has turned upside down! Gravity now repels us away from other objects! Black is white! Wrong is Right! Untruth is Truth!

Ok, so it isn't THAT dire, but its bad. Mac is beating PC! That is not acceptable! Never, in my wildest dreams, did I believe that this would happen! When I posted that poll, I expected all my faithful PC users (yes, all of you!) to proudly vote for PC (and then secretly vote again a day later...)! But no! The M.M.L.'s (misguided mac lovers) have put up more of a fight! I am ashamed and saddened.

I am counting on all of you who have seen the light to speak up and make your voices known! This is the time to rally together around the flag!

....and just for fun....:)

So Long, Farewell!

Well, today we say goodbye...

Our good friend will be leaving us. It is time for him to move on, try other things, take a different path, run a different race, think a different thought, live a different life...ok, I may be getting carried away.

Yes, it is true. Aaron is no longer a regular contributer to this site. Now before you throw your stones at me, shoot me with a shotgun or call me mean names, let me tell you that he will be popping back from time to time. He has a standing invitation to post his thoughts on here whenever he wants. So lower your weapon please...

As a tribute to Aaron I will putting a link up to (dare I say it?) Apple.com. This is the one and only time you will ever see a link to any filthy Mac page on this site, so cherish it. Aaron, this is a demonstration of how strong our friendship is...but never again.

All alone on the world wide web,
Matt

Hey,

Here is a link to a banned Xbox 360 commercial. I really don't know why it was banned but I think it is awful funny! LOL! For all of you Halo nerds out there - you will know what I am talking about!

You're a wizard, Harry....I mean, Ryan.

Apparently, my brother is a wizard. He has been touring Europe for the past three weeks and has posted quite a few pictures. If you want to see them, go here. If you want to see his website, go here. Some of my personal favorites are "owww" and "catching a pretorian guard off guard". I do not wish to show them to you because I believe Ryan deserves full credit (and blame) for his photos. So, check that out. But yeah, it seems his main method of transportation was Hogwarts Express. They merely dropped him off early. I wish I could ride on that train, but apparantly, I'm just a muggle. Oh well.

In terms of what's been going on here at home, I am just about to head back to Iowa State after spending a lovely Christmas break at home. I don't really want to start classes again, but I have little choice in the matter. I hope all of you had a wonderful break, and I wish the best of 2006 unto each and every one of you. Have fun breaking your New Year's Resolutions, and for those of you who are mature and disciplined enough to keep them, then the best of luck to you. I didn't even make any, cause I knew they wouldn't do anything for me. Well, this has been your pi time news live from Iowa. This is Aaron, signing off. (For those of you who don't understand that math joke, it's referring to the fact that it is 3:14 when I made this, and pi is 3.14....yeah, I know it's lame, but gimme a break, numbers are what I'm good at.)

I Got a Phone!

Whoohoo! I finally came out of the dark ages and entered into the 21st Century. I know, I know...I'm late but I guess I'm just a stickler. What can I say?

So I got the LG VX5200 (how do they come up with these names?) which is nicer that I had planned on. There was a really good deal with the plan and the guy (I can trust him....right?...) told me that this was a much better phone than the one I had planned on. I'm in a family plan with my mom - we each get 350 minutes which will be plenty for me. My sister wants to get one but doesn't want to fork over the dough. I kinda wish she would because it would make my monthly bill a little cheaper, but I don't blame her for not doing it - it's a drain on the monthly paycheck for sure.

Yeah, so I already locked myself out of the phone and had to call customer support and get the guy to unlock it for me. I was just playing around with the different features and saw the lock button. I figured this was like some sort of "keyguard" so I pushed it and it said locked. "That was easy!" I thought to myself, pushing the unlock button. Then a screen popped up saying, "Enter unlock code". Ahh crap. I tried a bunch of different numbers but nothing worked. I looked in the manual and it said that the default code was "0000" but that didn't work! So then I resorted to calling the customer service people. I think I heard the customer service guy suppress a giggle when I told him I had just bought the phone a couple hours before and already locked myself out of it (it wasn't my fault!) but he knew exactly what to do and the crisis was resolved in just a couple minutes. Usually I am pretty good with electronics...(really, I am....I swear!)

Not that any of you will ever need to call me (and you are not allowed to call me if you don't have Verizon! Just kiddin!) but my new number is 319-290-2237.

P.S. - look closely at the picture. The poor Verizon guy has been making too many "Can you hear me now?" calls and has developed a brain tumor. See the complete story here.

The Evolution of the Spoon

This is taken from my response to the random question section of my profile. I could not fit my answer in the space provided, so I will give the answer in full here.

Do you believe that forks are evolved from spoons?
Yes, it would seem to be consistent with the theory of evolution by natural selection. The spoon by itself would not be very useful at stabbing and picking up things, but would instead have to just scoop. Therefore, because "poking" would help the spoon reproduce, it would slowly, over millions of years undoubtedly evolve more prong-like appendages to better "poke" things. Of course the transition species between the spoon and the fork would be the spork, a mixture of both the fork and the spoon. Eventually the spork would evolve into a fork and then a complete dining set (table, chairs, placemats, plates, bowls, all necessary silverware, glasses, pretty vase with flowers and a four course meal) within the next 246 millions years (give or take a couple hundred thousand years or so).

See here for an extremely interesting article about the spork and it's amazing history!
